Tempted by the 45.6-billion-won prize, the remaining players decide to continue playing in this bloody, murderous, and savage environment.

Squid Game is a South Korean survival drama series, written and directed by Hwang Donghyuk for Netflix. The cast includes Lee Jungjae (Seong Gi-hun), Park Haesoo (Cho Sang-woo), Wi Hajoon (Hwang Jun-ho), Jung Hoyeon (Kang Sae-byeok), O Yeongsu (O Il-nam), Heo Sungtae (Jang Deok-su), Anupam Tripathi (Ali Abdul), and Kim Jooryoung (Han Mi-nyeo). The Korean drama revolves around a competition in which 456 players with high financial debts risk their lives to play a number of children’s games for a chance to win a prize of 45.6 billion won. The series title comes from a Korean children's game of the same name. Hwang came up with the idea due to his own financial struggles earlier in his life, as well as class differences in South Korea.

Although he originally wrote it in 2009, he couldn't find a production company to finance the idea until Netflix became interested around 2019 as part of its efforts to expand its programming overseas. On September 17, 2021, Squid Game got released worldwide, to receive massive international attention. With more than 142-million-member households watching in the first four weeks of its release, Squid Game became the most-watched Netflix series till now.
