In an interview with the new Apple series The Morning Show, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon revealed using intermittent fasting to stay in shape.
"I do intermittent fasting, so no food in the morning," -Jennifer
"I just have a green juice and a coffee in the morning." -Reese
Jennifer and Resse are fans of 16:8 intermittent fasting; where you fast for 16 hours and limit your meals to your chosen eight-hour window.
What is Intermittent fasting?
Intermittent fasting is a form of dietary planning where you voluntarily fast for a set period. Some form of intermittent fasting allows for the consumption of low calorie fluids, though that is based on personal preference. According to scientific research, this form of fasting is believed to help reduce the chances of heart disease and also reduce blood pressure. However, the science behind this technique is still undetermined. Many professionals consider it to work but also state that it is not effective for everyone.
Intermittent fasting is said to assist weight loss, control blood sugar levels and boost brain function, both rely on this technique to stay in shape.
Jennifer Aniston stated in the interview that she is a night owl and that she usually wakes up around 8:30 am or 9 am. She also said that she does not drink coffee immediately after waking up and that she would meditate and feed her dog before she drank coffee. However, she does drink some juice before starting her day.
Reese Witherspoon, unlike Jennifer, wakes up much earlier in the morning, around 6 am. Thanks to her seven-year-old son who she needs to wake up for. Reese does not enjoy exercising and usually only does so after 7:30 am. She also drinks some juice and coffee in the morning.
Is there’s a cheat day?
Happily, they allow themselves a 'cheat day' once a week to have what they like when they like – which in Jennifer's case turns out to be celery juice.
Jennifer Aniston is 50 years old however, her appearance is almost the same as how she looked 20 years ago, when she was starring in the hit series Friends.
Is there more to her wellbeing regime?
In addition to fasting, Jen does meditation, followed by five workouts per week. Witherspoon, manages to do six workouts.
They both stated that it's guaranteed to feel old and look old when eating dinner at 5pm. Most intermittent fasters prefer the more convenient 12 to 8 eating window, but 10 to 6 is considered optimal.
Does intermittent fasting work and (Safe)?
While studies suggest fasting is effective, followers are advised to stay hydrated throughout the regimen. When they do eat, fasters should ensure they consume a range of foods to prevent nutritional deficiencies. They should also not overindulge to avoid undoing all their hard work.
Fans of the eating plan credit it with helping to shift weight, increase longevity and controlling blood sugar levels. However, as with many diets, there can be downsides. Binge eating within the eight-hour window negates the positive effects and can cause initial side-effects like increased appetite and tiredness.
